Joanna Furnace

Joanna Furnace is a complex located near Elverson Pennsylvania. Joanna furnace was known for its abundance of iron ore, woodland area for charcoal, limestone and waterways to provide power. There are many different buildings at Joanna Furnace that all contributed to making it a very functional place. This includes the Blowing Engine House and Hot Blast Area, Furnace shack, Casting House and Ore Roaster. Joanna Furnace was started by Samuel Potts, Thomas Rutter III, Thomas May and Thomas Bull. The furnace itself was named after Pott’s wife Joanna Holland Potts, in the Robeson Township in 1791. This a a beautiful, historic place that would be a great place to bring your family sometime, they even have events on the third Saturday of every month.file_007 file_004
