KX Athletics Cheerleading

KX Athletics Cheerleading is an after-school activity for students to showcase their talents and put them on the competition floor. They have approximately three to four practices per week and give one hundred percent effort at every single one. The gym has six teams, Majors (SRC5), Aviators (S3), Recon (J2), Rangers (J1), Missiles (M1), and the special needs team, Hot Shots.

They typically have eight competitions per season, some are nearby while others require travel. This year KX has traveled to places such as Baltimore, New Jersey, North Carolina, Virginia, and will also compete in Pittsburgh and Florida. The girls and boy that are involved in this activity demonstrate large commitment and tireless amount of work, in hopes of achieving the same goals, winning many competitions and getting the opportunity to compete at The Summit.

The Summit All Star Cheerleading Championship is the pinnacle event of the all-star cheerleading world for every non-Cheerleading Worlds eligible team. Teams must compete for a Summit bid at one of many events held around the United States, the chances of your team earning an invitation to The Summit are 7%, that is why accomplishing this goal is so important to many teams. This event takes place in Florida at Walt Disney World’s ESPN Wide World of Sports from May 3-5, 2019.

On March 2-3, 2019, in Richmond, Virginia KX Athletics Aviators and Majors performed very well and earned Summit bids for the season. At the bid reveal on Monday, March 4th Holly Melot said, “I can’t believe we’re going back to Summit!!” and Alex Simpler said, “How did we even get our bid?”. Going forward, the rest of the season will be loads of work in order to accomplish a good placement at The Summit. Most of the athletes involved in this competitive sport have been participating for many years, some even began as soon as they learned to walk. Usually, when one think of cheerleading, it might only be “Rah Rah”, pom poms, and sidelines. With competitive cheerleading, this not the case. All-star cheerleading is very intense and something to be taken seriously. Every cheerleader at KX is part of one big family, and absolutely love the sport and the friendships. The gym is their second home.
