Twin Valley High School Baseball

The Twin Valley High School Varsity baseball team is coached by Mr. John Summers and Mr. Lance Chapelle, while Junior Varsity is coached by Mr. Charlie Christie and recent Twin Valley alumni Brad Rutherford. The team has a total of twenty-five players with thirteen on Varsity and twelve on Junior Varsity. This year the team volunteered Saturday March 16, 2019 at Tel Hai Retirement Community helping clear a path for a stone wall.

With fifteen seniors graduating last year, the team is hoping for big things from their younger players. The 2018 team made it to the county semi-finals, beating a better ranked Berks Catholic team, and losing to Fleetwood. Coach John Summers has been playing baseball his entire life in several different leagues, and decided it was time to coach rather than play. Before Summers arrived at Twin Valley he coached at Ephrata and Governor Mifflin, Summers commented, “last years team held a lot of depth and talent compared to this year’s team, but this year we have more experience and are headed in the right direction.”

The Varsity team is led by Seniors Dominick Kennedy (12) and Pierce Rucci (12), both of who have committed to play baseball in college. Dom Kennedy has been playing on the varsity team all four years of his high school career, looking to put up a banner in his final year. “Playing at the Varsity level all four years lowers pressure for me but doesn’t change how I compete, we’re all here to win and give it our all”, said Dom (12). After losses to Warwick in the first scrimmage of the year, both Varsity and Junior Varsity look to bounce back for the regular season.

With less depth than last year, Summers looks to his younger players to help bring the team success. Matt Passerini (10) and Koy Zdimal (10) are two sophomores that were on Junior Varsity last year and are now starting on the Varsity team. “Coming from junior varsity to varsity in a year as an underclassman is awesome and nervous, but I just want to contribute as much as I can for my team”, said Matt (10). The Twin Valley Baseball Team hopes to have a successful season as they compete with other Berks County teams in their 2019 season.
